Graduation Requirements

A total of 24 credits will be required to graduate.  The following are specific requirements within the 24 required:

• 4 credits of Language Arts (Language Arts 9, 10, 11,12)
• 4 credits of Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry & another math course) 1 credit of math must be taken during the senior year
• 3 credits of Science (Physical Science, Biology, Physics or Chemistry or Anatomy/Physiology
• 1 credit of Physical Education/Health or Board waiver equivalent to 2 years of Physical Education
• 1.5 credits of Basic Core (Personal Finance, Computers 1, Computer Elective)
• .5 credit of Civics
• .5 credit of Economics
• 1 credit of U.S. History Geography
• 1 credit of World Studies Geography
• 2 credits of Foreign Language
• 1 credit of Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts, Vocational Education Online Learning Experience (incorporated into each core class) Participation in the Michigan Merit Exam

All required subjects or their substitutes must be passed.  Seniors are required to pass five units to graduate.

Each semester grade is final.  (Example:  A “C” for semester II will not compensate for “E” in a given course for semester I).  In the high school only final grades for each semester are recorded on permanent records.  Students receive 1/2 credit for each class passed during a semester (exceptions are LCC Dual
Enrollment, Voc-Tech, CCRESA Career Connections, and Work-Based Education).

Class Status

Senior Status:  A student who has not earned a minimum of 17 credits by September 1 or 20-1/2 by February 1 of his/her fourth year in high school shall not be considered a senior for the purpose of graduation activities.  Only those students who will be earning 24 credits by May 1 will be allowed to march with their class at Graduation, Baccalaureate, and Honors Assembly.  Students who are not meeting these graduation standards may order announcements and commencement attire, but run the risk of not being able to participate in the ceremony.

No refunds will be issued.

Junior Status:  A student who has not earned 10 credits by September 1 shall not be considered a Junior and, therefore, is not granted the privilege of participating in Junior Class activities. 

Sophomore Status:  A student who has not earned a minimum of 3 credits by September 1 shall not be considered a Sophomore and, therefore, is not granted the privileges of participating in Sophomore Class activities.  A student will only be allowed to earn two (2) outside credits to make-up for deficiencies or failures in order to meet the minimum graduation requirements, unless approved by exception from the administration.

Honor Roll

Honor Roll will be determined at the end of each marking period.  The grades in ALL subjects are considered.  Any student having a B average and having no grades D+ or lower will be eligible for Honor Roll.  Top ten and class rank are determined by using the above numerical equivalents for above, going three places past the decimal point.  The best grade a student receives is an A.
